Santa Carolina Specialies Dry Farming Carignan 2012, Cauquenes Valley, Maule Valley, Chile: The Carignan grapes are dry farmed, which adds richness, depth and character to the wine. Dry farming means that the grapes are not irrigated and must rely on the rain water that nature provides, however little that is in dry climates like this one. Tenuta Di Ghizzano Veneroso 2012, Tuscany I.G.T, Italy: This robust Italian red wine is a blend is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine was first made in 1985, and from vines planted in hilly vineyards planted 35 kilometres from the Tuscan coastline. They are organically farmed using indigenous yeast and the wine is aged for 16 months in second-use barrels and another 14 months in bottle at the winery before release. Classic and structured and intriguing. Black fruit and smoky mystery on the nose. The palate floods the senses with black plums, anise and dark spices.
