Don Jacobo Reserva 2010, Rioja D.O.C.A., Spain: This Riojan red wine is a blend of traditional Spanish grapes with mostly Tempranillo (90%) and smaller amounts of Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes. The wine is oak barrels from 18-24 months. Serve at 16-18 degrees Celsius with a rosemary-crusted lamb roast. Savoury dried herbs and tanned leather on the nose of this mature Spanish red wine, along with dried red fruit and smoke. Very attractive and drinking at its peak if you love mature wines like I do. La Tremenda Monastrell 2014, Alicante D.O., Spain: The 2014 vintage of La Tremenda is a single vineyard, medium-bodied red made with 100% Monastrell wine grapes. Enrique Mendoza is the producer of this Alicante wine region red and La Tremenda comes from a single vineyard planted 16 years ago at 600 metres above sea level The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in 500-litre oak vats for six months. A stupendously long finish. Is there anything more festive during the holidays than pink bubbly? Float a raspberry on top. These folks also make the coveted Cristal Champagne.
