Concha y Toro Terrunyo Peumo Vineyard Block 27 Carmenère 2016, Peumo, Cachapoal Valley, Chile: The vines are planted in alluvial clay loam 170 metres above sea level. Winemaker Ignacio Recabarren hones his craft on this single-vineyard bottling. This Chilean red wine is made from the country's iconic red grape Carmenère sourced from the winery estate's Peumo Vineyard Block 27. Grapes are sourced from Entre Cordilleras, Peumo and Cachapoal Valley where the climate is sunny, sub-humid Mediterranean with pronounced daily temperature variation. The Spanish word Terrunyo means terroir. This Carmenère is complex, deep, savoury and bursting with luscious black fruit aromas and flavours. This wine gives and gives right out to a long finish. Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina: Robust and savoury with blackberry and wild cassis. Firm tannic grip. A great value. Pair with a rare steak. Dominio del Plata produces this blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 5% Merlot grown at 1,160 metres above sea level. The wine was aged for 13 months in 80% new French oak barrels and 20% second use French oak. Winemaker Susana Balbo has been unofficially dubbed the "Evita of Wine" in her native Argentina.
