Belle Glos Dairyman Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States: Always lush and juicy with dark cherry, dried red berry, chocolate and smooth vanilla flavours on the palate, this Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is produced from wine grapes grown on the alluvial soils there. Heavy fog rolls in over the coastal range and burns off when the sun reaches its highest point in the day. This cooling morning effect and the loamy soils allows the Dijon clone of Pinot Noir in this wine to ripen slowly to full maturity. The vineyard was grown was once a dairy farm and pasture. Château Camplong Grande Réserve Corbières 2017, Corbières, Languedoc A.P., France: Château Camplong Grande Reserve 2017 is a medium-plus-bodied Syrah blend with cedar spice, ripe blackberry and fine herb aromas on the nose. Great value under $15, look for ripe blackberry, dark fruit, plum, chocolate, wild herb flavours on the palate balanced with lively acidity for food and chalky fine tannins. The Syrah grapes for this vintage were sourced from a mix of limestone, marl and sandstone soils in the Corbières. De Angelis Offida Pecorino 2018, Marche D.O.C.G., Italy: From the Marche wine region, De Angelis Offida Pecorino is great value under $15. This is a vibrant white made for rich seafood dishes and yes, Pecorino cheese. This is a great producer from the area. De Angelis are a family run winery that hand harvest, use natural yeasts, and have been recently been certified organic. Pecorino is often overshadowed by the more famous Verdicchio, which has many appellations nearby. Verdicchio is lean and crisp, while Pecorino has a softer more inviting character with aromas of fresh white peach, vanilla, spring florals and fine herb notes on the palate. This vintage is also showing soft orange and white pepper spice flavours with a gentle briny finish. Pecorino food pairings: grilled shellfish, salads, quiches, seafood pizza.
