A terrific, full-bodied red wine at a staggeringly great price! This is a DOCA wine and is produced by Bodegas Y Vinedos Ilurce. Loaded with black pepper, fleshy dark fruit, mouth-watering action and layers of lip-smacking flavours. This wine was matured in French oak and made from 100% Graciano, a native Spanish grape enjoying a resurgence in popularity. This is modern and complex Rioja red wine. Pair with lamb and rosemary.

Graciano food pairings: Montreal spices, turkey with cranberry sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied Rioja Graciano with delicious fragrances and flavours of ripe cherries and blackberries. Satiny mouthfeel, soft tannins and long fruity finish. This is a great value red, so grab a couple of bottles at this price.

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

A little hint of black plum fruit and loads of spice and earthy underbrush. The palate is tart and lacks a bit of balance. Dominant notes include tart red berries, black tea and stemmy notes on the finish. Tasted Jan 2017 - @sommsosa
Rio Madre (2014) is from Rioja, Spain and is made with 100% Graciano -- a native Spanish wine grape, originally from the North of Spain and currently experiencing a resurgence. This grape is also a key component in crafting Rioja wines and Gran Riservias with the ability to age. Rio Madre is inky-red to almost black, floral with blackberry, black cherries, plums and blackcurrant flavours. Secondary and Tertiary flavours include dark chocolate and smoke. Pair with all things game. - Community Wine Reviews
