Layered, complex and deep, like math, but without the work. This red hails from one of Argentina's top producers. Don David Reserve Malbec 2012, Calchaquí Valley, Salta, Argentina: Especially gorgeous for the price: this is my new party wine. Wow. Rich blackberry and black plum with mouth-watering juiciness and satisfying full-bodied weight. Winemaker Michel Torino is much-respected for his robust, flavourful Malbec wines made in the Cafayate region of northern Argentina. Some of his vineyards are planted at the highest elevations above sea level for viticulture worldwide, which gives them an extra dimension of balance and complexity. The Black Chook Shiraz Viognier 2013, South Australia, Australia: Surprisingly excellent for the price, wow. This full-bodied Australian red wine is a blend of mostly Shiraz and a splash of Viognier from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Aromas of blackberry jam lusciousness with some mint. Layers and layers and layers of pleasure. Eyes closed kinda wine. Some violets and cedar on this finish. Highly recommended. Loaded with fleshy ripe dark berries and vanilla spice from toasty oak aging. Good mouth-watering acidity on the palate leads to a clean finish. Pair with a juicy steak. Boutari Grande Reserve Xinomavro 2008, Naoussa, Greece: Boutari was founded in Naoussa region of Greece back in 1879. This is the Xinomavro grape that makes this particular wine. Serve at 18 degrees with meats and cheeses. Juicy with attractive mouth-watering acidity with savoury notes of dried herbs and red and black fruit. Elegant wine for many dishes. Really worth trying. It's full-bodied and dry with layers of voluptuous dark fruit. Perfect for meat lovers' pizza and meat sauce pasta. This Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) offers dark spice and vanilla smoke on the finish. Gioia del Colle is nestled in the centre of the Puglia region and is known as the Italian heart of Primitivo.
