Les Terrasses De Saint Christophe 2014

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux A.C., France

Colleen scored this wine: 94/100

2014 was a good year in Saint Émilion and this wine shows well. Complex aromas of ripe juicy black plums, cassis, baking spice, earth, cedar, new leather, tobacco and star anise. These carry through to the palate although the taste is more red than black plum with some cherries, prunes, mint, cocoa, vanilla and spice. Solid acidity and round tannins are well balanced creating a smooth and lucious mouthfeel. Medium long finish. Pair with grilled duck breast with blackberry confit.

Superb sherry at an incredible value. Fresh scents of flor, orange citrus, overripe banana, salted caramel, dried figs, nuts and bread. Medium dry with just enough sweetness. Burnt brown sugar and banana bread flavours remind me of my grandmother’s banana upside down cake. The bottom of the pan is lined with brown sugar, maraschino cherries and pineapple that caramelize in a healthy dose of butter. I taste it all in this glass. There’s a delicious yet fresh finish of orange and crisp celery sticks. Pair with a mildly sweet dessert like shortbread cookies or alfajores. Try it with a smoked meat sandwich on walnut fig bread with some cornichons or sip on its own and enjoy.

Distinctive nose. Ripe raspberry and cherry. Vanilla, smoke, compost, coffee. Cherry candy and strawberry rhubarb pie on the palate. Would be interesting paired with turkey dinner with plenty of gravy, cranberry sauce and a fatoush salad made with pomegranate molasses.

Complex aromas that make you ease back in your chair, slow down and ponder life. At first coffee, chocolate, rich ripe plums and mushroom but as you come back to the glass there's a freshness too. Eucalyptus, rosemary, ripe blackberries and raspberries. Bright on the palate tangy cherry and raspberry. Full bodied with smooth round tannins and bright acidity that give this wine structure. So much going on the glass you'll want to savour this one. Pair with warm winter lamb braised with plenty of herbs.

This crisp, lively white has bright aromas of honeysuckle, ginger, white grapefruit, and ripe melon. Honey, ripe stone fruit and melon on the palate are reminiscent of a summer day. Good acidity and minerality keep this delicious pinot gris juicy and fresh. Pair with watermelon salad and grilled chicken or planked salmon. The honey and ginger will also pair well with sushi and asian dishes.
