Woop Woop Wines

The Black Chook Woop Woop Wines Shiraz Viognier 2008

Andrea scored this wine: 89/100

This intriguing combination of 96% shiraz/ 4% viognier proved to be a well matched duo in the glass. Another Australian gem from the McLaren Vale, the addition of viognier grapes bring a unique floral component to the aroma of ripe, jammy raspberries, toasted oak, and anise. Bursting with fruity red berries and spice on the palate, the well balanced tannins make this wine a definite pleaser, with or without food.

With a richness of black cherries, chocolate and hints of peppery spice in combination with its noticeably robust presence in my mouth, this pinot was a dazzling experience for my palate. It presented an unexpectedly full body with well-balanced, smooth tannins. It was such a showstopper, I couldn't resist a second glass.....(can't promise there was not also a third!) On a scale out of 100, I give this wine a score of 92.

Rich, red black-cherry aromas and a deep ruby hue characterized this medium-bodied wine. Fruity and acidic on the tongue, it had a soft, clean finish. Simple and pleasing; an everyday value which would be well matched to a comforting tomato sauce.

I wasn't sure what to expect with an Chardonnay/ Chenin Blanc from Argentina, and I must say, I was rather impressed at its startling presence in my glass. Petrol, minerality, apricot and peach on the nose, this lively white blend presented crisp acidity with mild hints of almond and vanilla. A pleasantly surprising winner that is inexpensive yet delightful.

My first impressions came as soon as I uncorked the wine, as the aromatic tendencies of this wine came to life! Light and citrusy, with notes of fresh grapes and apricot, the wine had a crisp acidity and undertones of vanilla. Perfect about a half hour out of the fridge, and would be an awesome summertime sipper. Definitely a great match for turkey or ham at Easter, a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Definitely one I will be keeping on hand.
