from the Abruzzo D.O.C., Terra d'Aligi Tatone 2017 is a rich, savoury, full-bodied Montepulciano D'abruzzo and great value below $17. Look for ripe black cherry, chocolate, savoury herbs, smoky and spicy on the palate. Tannins are grippy. Tatone is the local word for "grandfather," and the name given to the wine because it reflected the strength and authority of Carlo and Adriano Spinelli's grandfather. The wine was first produced in 1997. Pour with a classic ragù all'Abruzzese.

Montepulciano D'abruzzo food pairings: pasta with Bolognese sauce, rabbit stew, roast chicken with olives.

Terra d'Aligi Tatone 2017 is a juicy, full-bodied Montepulciano D'abruzzo and excellent value at $17. Smoky and savoury on the palate with ripe black cherry, chocolate, vanilla, savoury herbs and dark spices. Tannins are grippy. Pour with a classic ragù all'Abruzzese (slow-cooked tomatoes, lamb, beef and pork). First produced in 1997, Tatone is the local word for "grandfather," and the name given to the wine because it reflected the strength and authority of Carlo and Adriano Spinelli's grandfather. - Community Wine Reviews
