From the Abruzzo wine region, Terra d'Aligi Tatone 2019 is a great value dry, full-bodied and savoury Montepulciano D'abruzzo at $17. Tatone is the local word for "grandfather," and the name given to the wine because it reflected the strength and authority of Carlo and Adriano Spinelli's grandfather. The wine was first produced in 1997. Fragrant and rich with ripe dark fruits, cherry compote, sous bois, anise, cinnamon and savoury herb flavours the wine is balanced with juicy acidity, and tannins are velvety and fine. Drinking beautifully now and into 2025.

Montepulciano D'abruzzo food pairings: pasta with Bolognese sauce, rabbit stew, roast chicken with olives.

Tatone is the local word for "grandfather," and the wine was so named because it reflected the strength and authority of Carlo and Adriano Spinelli's grandfather. Lovely now with dried fruit, dried wild herbs with a spicy finish, enjoy it with a sausage cassoulet. Tatone was first produced in 1997. - Community Wine Reviews
