A full-bodied and robust Montepulciano D'abruzzo with dark berry, dark chocolate aromas on the nose. Mouth-filling and silky on the palate with ripe dark cherry, black raspberry, earthy, herb and spicy flavours with vibrant acidity on the palate. The wine was first produced in 1997, by Carlo and Adriano Spinelli. Tatone is the local word for "grandfather," and the name given to the wine because it reflected the strength and authority of their grandfather. The wine aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Pair with a meat lover's pizza.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo food pairings: pasta with Bolognese sauce, rabbit stew, roast chicken with olives.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Dark, earthy fruit on the nose and palate. Very smooth with a grippy, medium plus finish. A substantial wine, especially at this price. Pair it with bold, spicy spaghetti or boar ragu. Tasted July 2019. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
