A cult classic, lush and elegant produced from 92% Caménère and 8% Petit Verdot grapes. Opaque in the glass rich with blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, ripe cherry, bell pepper, thyme, sweet spice and silky dark chocolate. Consistently great, this wine has it all. Pair with filet mignon and date night.

Food pairings: veal roast, slow-cooked brisket of beef, rabbit fricassee.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

This is a robust and powerful wine with a cult following. Primarily Carmenere (92%) and Petit Vedot (8%), this wine lives up to its reputation with robust and rounded blackberry, plum, and black currant, with some slight herbal notes, as well as hints of mocha and smoke. Full bodied, smooth and powerful, with smooth tannins, rich, ripe fruit on the palalte, and an herbaceous, smoky finish, with more of that mocha hint carrying through. Enjoy with a grilled steak.
From the Colchagua Valley wine region Montes Purple Angel 2017 is soul satisfying. Produced mostly from Chile's signature wine grape, Caménère, ripe with blackberry, dark plum, savoury herbs, pepper spice and dark chocolate flavours so smooth the palate. Complex and consistently great. Drink from 2021. - Community Wine Reviews
