Montes Purple Angel is a cult classic. The 2018 vintage of this elegant, medium-plus-bodied red blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot is a little lighter, still elegant, bright and silky with fresh blackberry, plum, cassis, dried herbs and a hint of smoke. Tannins are rich and smooth. Grapes are sourced from the Apalta and Marchigüe areas. During the 18 months of barrel aging, the wine is racked three times to remove the lees and to allow some oxygen in for maturation of this wine. Good now, better in 2023 or cellar to 2030.

Food pairings: veal roast, slow-cooked brisket of beef, rabbit fricassee.

Reviews and Ratings

Love Montes Purple Angel 2018. From a great vintage, this is an elegant, medium-plus-bodied red blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot produced from grapes sourced from Apalta and Marchigüe. Lovely detail, freshness and focus. Dry and full on the palate with dark berry, plum, dried herbs finishing long with a touch of smoke. Drink or hold. - Community Wine Reviews
