There's a reason this Chilean wine has a cult following. Purple Angel will make you feel as though you've gone to heaven aloft a cloud of sensory pleasure. The 2014 vintage is a blend of 92% Caménère and 8% Petit Verdot grapes. Caménère was re-discovered only about 12 years ago, believed to be extinct after phylloxera hit its ancestral home in Bordeaux in 1880. That's why it's also called the "Jurassic Park" grape. The vines for this wine are planted on steep slopes. If you love full-bodied, juicy, fruit-forward wines, this is your apogee as it also has all of those other great hallmarks of superb wine: complexity, balance and finish. Pair with a juicy steak.

Food pairings: veal roast, slow-cooked brisket of beef, rabbit fricassee.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

This wine is insane. Absolutely insane. Loads of blackberry, cassis and acai berry accompanied by herbs, baking spice, purple flowers and pepper. This will age up to two decades. 95 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Lise Charest Gagne rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Wow. I saved this wine for a long time. It’s sensual, it’s deep and it’s racy! One of those things that I saved for last and so worth it! Dark, broody and juicy with a vibrant finish!! Delicious! Enjoyed in March 2021.
From the Colchagua Valley, Montes Purple Angel (2014) is so easy to enjoy. Lots of plum, blackberry, florals and herbs on this full-bodied red. The red wine blend is mostly Caménère with some Petit Verdot. Drinking beautifully now. - Community Wine Reviews
