From the Niagara Peninsula wine region, Featherstone Red Tail 2018 Merlot is an elegant 100% Merlot with fresh berry and cherry aromas, smoky and spicy on the nose. Very approachable and easy to enjoy now, this fruity Merlot is bright and zesty with fresh cherry, spiced plum, and wild herb flavours on the palate. Aged 10 months in French oak. Pour with burgers and ribs. Featherstone's Red Tail Merlot pays homage to the winery's use of falconry to protect their juicy crop from the flocks of birds in the know.

Merlot food pairings: beef, cheese, poultry, pork tenderloin , quesadillas, game.

Reviews and Ratings

Trent Mayers rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Ontario winters are tough on Merlot vines, but some Niagara wineries are doing marvellous things. The wine is filled with spiced blueberry jam, plum, and black & red cherry in addition to a suggestion of dark chocolate. Add to that just the right amount of new oak infusing baking spice, vanilla, and coconut. It's an excellent, dry, flavourful rendition of a cool climate Merlot. Try it with cheese tortellini in a bacon, basil, and tomato sauce with a pinch of hot pepper flakes.
4 stars out of 5
Featherstone Red Tail 2018 Merlot is a great value Niagara Peninsula Merlot at $20. Very approachable and easy to enjoy now. Bright and silky on the palate with ripe red plum, dark cherry, spices and vibrant acidity. The wine is in recognition of the good job the falcons do in protecting these juicy grapes in the vineyards from other birds. - Community Wine Reviews
