In 1687, the wine estate of Pierre de Beaucastel was ennobled by King Louis XIV, and has continued its august heritage in the history of Rhone Valley winemaking. This is a spectacular southern French red wine with 30 hectares of vineyards planted just east of the flagship vineyard Chateau de Beaucastel in the Rhone Valley thus it's often called "baby Beaucastel." Full-bodied with fleshy ripe blackberry jam and black raspberry preserves aromas and flavours. Rich and layered. Pair with roast beef.

Côtes-Du-Rhône food pairings: braised meats, herbed steaks, venison.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

If you're new to the Rhone, I cannot imagine a better introduction. This is the basic cuvee of one of the most famous growers of Chateauneuf du Pape. They have ancient vineyards in the classic soil of Chateauneuf (free drainig soil full of galet riverstones), they have a unique history, and their wines always scoop up great ratings for their concentration and ageability.
Deep violet and ruby hues.
Rich and almost glasscoating.
Aromas of brown kitchen spices, pepper, lavender, pot-pourri, cassis, currant, plum, licorice, and leather. It needs about 1/2 an hour, at least, to breathe.
The flavours are pure and fresh. Nice acidity, decently full bodoed, and a lot of red fruit on the palate. Plum and chocolate on the finish.
This is not their Chateauneuf. It is an assembled cuvee including fruit from their main area in Chateauneuf and the other surrounding communes, as well. It would go great with lamb or cassoulet. It could also age for 5-7 years with ease.
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted March 17th, 2018, St Patrick’s Day. Nice ruby red colour, with medium plus legs,
Complex aromas and flavours. Tasted dry, medium body plus with nice fine grained tannin. We drank this wine with grilled strip loin medallions, herb de Provence mushrooms, creamy roast potatoes . Great wine.
From the Famille Perrin, Coudoulet De Beaucastel 2015 is a full-bodied, lush and layered Côtes-Du-Rhône red blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault. This is a spectacular southern French red wine with 30 hectares of vineyards planted just east of the flagship vineyard Chateau de Beaucastel in the Rhone Valley thus it's often called "baby Beaucastel." Look for ripe blackberry, raspberry, plum, cherry, black pepper and cedar spice flavours on the palate on this warm red from the south of France. - Community Wine Reviews
