In 1687, the wine estate of Pierre de Beaucastel was ennobled by King Louis XIV, and has continued its august heritage in the history of Rhone Valley winemaking. This is a spectacular southern French red wine with 30 hectares of vineyards planted just east of the flagship vineyard Chateau de Beaucastel in the Rhone Valley thus it's often called "baby Beaucastel." Full-bodied with fleshy ripe blackberry jam and black raspberry preserves aromas and flavours. Rich and layered. Pair with roast beef.

Food pairings: braised meats, herbed steaks, venison.

Reviews and Ratings

Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Ruby in colour with aromas of plum, cherry, raspberry, black berries, leather, black pepper and cedar. It is full bodied and well balanced with flavours of cherry, black pepper and raspberry jam. This Cotes-du-Rhone will pair well with roast beef and other red meats. Well worth the price.
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Thoroughly enjoyed this rich, fresh and fruity, medium bodied CDR. Red fruit , pepper and leather on the nose. Blackberry, cherry, vanilla and herbs on the palate. Pair with assorted cheeses and cured meats.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Aromas of blackberries and raspberries with a hint of pepper, followed by a rich, subtly layered palate showing raspberry jam, vanilla, dried herbs, toasty oak. Tangy acidity and subtly elegant finish. Tasted Nov. 2016
Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Very earthy on the nose. Smooth well balanced. Medium body, medium finish.
Cora Beaulieu rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby in color. This blended wine has notes of plums, blackberry, black cherry and licorice. On the richer side of medium-bodied, good persistent aromas of tasty, mild mineral infused with black cherry and notes of thyme and subtle oak. The finish is dry and its well managed tannins linger nicely. This wine is very food friendly – suggest pairing with braised meats and roasted veggies.
Melanie Aubert rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Beautiful and perfumey CDR. Medium-bodied and easy to drink. The medium tannins are barely perceptible and have been well integrated. Cherry, cassis, leather and cedar. Pair with the holidays!
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby with aromas of rosemary, red cherry, black pepper, and raspberry. The taste is cherry and raspberry with a good helping of dried herbs. Very fine, grippy tannins and medium-plus acidity. A very "French" wine in style, perfect for roast pork, turkey, or even lighter stews.
A spectacular southern French red wine from the Rhone Valley. Full-bodied with fleshy ripe blackberry jam and black raspberry preserves aromas and flavours. Rich and layered. Pair with roast beef. Coudoulet De Beaucastel (2014) is a well-built and full-bodied Rhone red from the Cotes du Rhone Valley. Excellent now with a rare roast beef. - Community Wine Reviews
