Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Foreign Affair Winery is the pioneer in appassimento winemaking in Canada. After tasting the 2012 Dream, it's clear they're mastering this fine winemaking art. Made in a similar way to Amarone, but using Bordeaux varietals, it's a noble blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, that results in an absolutely lovely and layered Amarone-Bordeaux aroma profile. The natural drying of the grapes produces such interesting sweet fruit aromas and flavour profiles, words don't quite do it justice, one must enjoy for themselves. Plums, black cherry, currants, blueberry, and dark chocolate, to name a few, on the palate. Very well balanced, very well made. Enjoy now with rich Italian cuisine. Tasted January 2015. 93 points. Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Full-bodied meritage blend consisting of 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. Appassimento portions of all but the PV constitute 24% of the final blend that spent 18 months in a combination of French, American, and Hungarian oak. Expressive nose contains a pleasant balance of fresh and dried fruits, namely cherry and plum, alongside barrel notes and some initial tertiary characteristics of dried floral and leather. Leads with some sweetness before formidable tannins and balanced acidity pull everything into sync. Aging well as the fruit notes, overbearing in the infancy of this wine, are settling down, matching the vanilla, cocoa, and smoke of the oak, and welcoming the first aged notes to the party. While full, this is eminently sippable on its own, though not opposed to pairing with hearty meat pastas, pork and beef roasts, or BBQ ribs.
From Ontario's Niagara Peninsula, Foreign Affair's Dream (2012) is a red wine made in the dried-grape appeasement style as what is done in Italy's Veneto region for many Valpolicella wine blends. The 2012 vintage of Dream is a red wine blend of merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. - Community Wine Reviews
