An elegant, long-lived Californian Merlot from one of Napa's most respected producers. Not to be confused with Stag's Leap winery (different placement of the apostrophe). Aromas of black plums and dark berries. Long finish. This will cellar well. Decant 1-2 hours. Pair with lamb chops.

Merlot food pairings: Brazilian-style flank steak with chimichurri sauce, rack of BBQ ribs, veal Porterhouse, grilled lamb, Tandoori-flavored dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Very aromatic with blackcurrant, ripe blackberry and vanilla notes, continuing happily on a very expressive palate. Satiny smooth and mouth-watering with a long luscious finish. The Merlot lover on your gift list will love this!

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This tasty Merlot has aromas of sour cherry, blackberry, black plum, and violet. It has flavours of dark berry with bitter chocolate at the finish. The tannins are medium and well integrated with the fresh acidity of the wine.

Tasted November 2017
California Stags' Leap Winery (2014) is a robust and firmly tannic Californian Merlot from the Napa Valley. The original Stag's Leap winery was established in 1893. The estate has 240 acres under vine in the heart of Napa Valley. Winemaker Christophe Paubert aged this Merlot in French oak barrels (35% new) for 16 months. Look for juicy dark cherry fruit, blueberry, violet and spice notes, and pair this with venison stew. - Community Wine Reviews
