This Chilean red wine has an intense and aromatic nose of mint and blackberry with plush fleshy plums on the palate. Nicely balanced with full-bodied goodness. Great structure and a good grip on the palate. Decant 1-2 hours. Finishes with dark spices. Pair with meat lamb and rosemary.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: hamburgers, steak, hearty meat dishes, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Nice structure and complexity can be yours for the low price of just $18. Concentrated black fruit with a backbone of cassis. Secondary aromas of blackcurrant leaf, tobacco, and horse saddle with just a slight wash of mint and juicy green pepper. Full-bodied with balanced acidity and smoothing tannins. Perfect pairing with your favourite roasted red meats.
Tasted: January 2016
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine are sourced from Santa Rita’s estate vineyard in Alto Jahuel. The vines are 20 years old or older. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 14 months. Medalla real translates to Royal Medal. This winery was founded in 1880, and present day winemakers Cecilia Torres and Andrés Ilabaca are Cabernet specialists. - Community Wine Reviews
