Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: The Ravenswood Old Vine Zinfandel 2013 is a nice wine. Cherry, dark berry fruit, blueberry, chocolate and spice make up this wine. Tasted January 31, 2016 (90/100)
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: This is a wonderful densely concentrated Lodi Zin. Dense ruby red, 14.5% ABV. Aromatics of stewed strawberry, ripe blackberry, baking spice, ripe pomegranate and blueberry. Medium plus body, medium acidity, medium tannins, not perceptible high alcohol, well-balanced. Long finish with persistencenot blueberry and pomegranate. Pairs well with dry rub texan ribs, chilli con carne, fig and goat cheese corn tortillas or definitely on its own. This is a crowd pleaser and offers great value. Enjoy 2016-2022. Decanted 2 h and tasted Jan 2016.
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Blueberry and smoke on the nose with blueberry, plum and vanilla on the palate. Tannins were silky soft and the finish was long as lasting.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Aromas include smoke and oak mingled with jammy blueberry and some honey. Berry and vanilla come through on the palate, with smooth tannin. Longer finish. Pair with pulled pork or ribs.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Aromas of cassis and dark cherry, with a little smoke and cedar. The mouth feel supple and rounded, with tastes of cassis and cherry. A nce wine with a meaty stew.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: A surprisingly lighter coloured Zin, has baked dark fruit, spice and smoke on the nose. Medium bodied, with nice acidity and more vibrant dark fruit on the palate. This would go perfectly with a juicy roast.
Tania Thomas - CSW, WSET ADV rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Crafted with the fruit from many different vineyards throughout California’s Lodi region, all vinified separately before blending. Fruit forward and earthy with perfectly balanced, vibrant acidity, this is a delicious blend of 77% Zinfandel with 23% of Petit Sirah. Bursting with aromas and flavours of ripe black fruit, a touch of baking spice and soft velvety mouthfeel, leading to a vanilla-chocolate-toned polished finish. Drink it now of age for up to 10 years.
Cora Beaulieu rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: This typical zinfandel, from the warm Lodi region, lives up to Ravenswood's 'No Wimpy Wines' motto. In this wine there's plenty of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry and plum aromas, as well as green/white peppers, herb/leafy and spicy notes. It's a chewy, full-bodied red with balanced acidity. The wine presents plenty of jammy notes; dark berry/fruit (cherry, plum, blackberry and raisin) as well as cocoa and white pepper. The light oak and astringent tannins create the modest vanilla and toasted spices that linger on the finish. A pleasure to drink by itself or with flavorful meat dishes or a cheese platter.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: A full-bodied robust red blend of 77% Zinfandel, 23% Petite Syrah, from California's Lodi region. Interesting nose with blueberries, vanilla, earthy notes, herbal touches and smoke. The palate gives blueberries, dark plums, vanilla, cocao, oak, slight herbal/tomato stem. Silky tannins, long smokey berry finish.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Medium ruby, mixed berry, oak spice, mocha, dried herb on the nose. Soft and smooth on the palate, with dark cherry, sweet berry, spice and cedar. Fine tannins and balanced acidity with a medium long finish. Definately worth the extra two dollars over the regular vintners blend. Fire up the BBQ for burgers. Tasted January 2016
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review: I always find that Zinfandel wines smell like Quench juice and I mean it in a good way like it reminds me of my childhood. Those wine are often juicy and generous and easy to drink. This one is no exception. The nose has black fruit (plum, blueberry pie) and pepper. Good balanced in the mouth. Easy to drink. Not pretentious. A good pair for grilled meat.
Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review: Ravenswood’s logo might be the most tattooed symbol in the wine business… Since starting the winery in Sonoma County in 1976, Joel Peterson has amassed enormous critical acclaim, a dedicated cult following and has even been nicknamed the Grandfather of Zinfandel. Always dedicated, tenacious and committed to crafting the best wines possible, he proved that with hard work and a great deal of passion it is absolutely possible even if in the early days, for a decade, the winery’s location was an old tin-roofed shelter, once a woodworking shop making oak toilet seats!!! A unique attribute to Ravenswood’s success is a long-standing relationship with over 100 independent grape growers. Each vineyard is personally chosen by Joel himself according to their location, age, yield and special flavor characteristics demonstrating Zinfandel’s multiple facets. This wine is a blend of 77% Zinfandel and 23% Petite Sirah fruit hailing from 80 year old vines. In the glass, the wine is a dark ruby red with purple hues. On the nose, it exudes loads of lovely ripe blueberries, dried herb and a touch of herbaceousness. Soft palate with juicy acidity and velvety tannins. Yummy blueberries again with some earthiness. Great food wine that will pair scrumptiously with meaty gourmet pizza or even spicy turkey burgers.
Emilie Ryan rated this wine as 77/100 with the following review: A versatile red wine… Presentation: Busy but distinctive Appearance: Medium-dark ruby Nose: Sweet, floral perfume, blueberries and raspberries, a little Taste: Floral perfume, leather and smoke. Finish: Leather and alcohol. Overall impression: A good red that could mix with a variety of heartier dishes and multiple cheeses. Value: 3 out of 5
