Ironstone Merlot is a consistent crowd-pleaser, enticing with its aromas of plushy dark, spiced plum and mocha on the nose. Full-bodied with black plum compote, savoury herbs and plenty of smoky vanilla and sweet oak spice flavours on the palate. The Kautz family, owners and operators of Ironstone, began farming in Lodi in 1926 and have been making wine there for four generations.

Merlot food pairings: grilled ribs, burgers, cheese, poultry, lamb, grilled sausages.

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Excellent value here with this fruity Merlot. Black licorice and wild cherry mingle on the nose and surprisingly, carry over to the palate in spades! Very interesting pour here! Rich, smooth and fruity this will appeal to many. Drink now or within the next few years. Serve with spicy ribs. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com

A staple in my own cellar, this full-bodied Californian Merlot has aromas of black cherry and vanilla and a dark berry and plum palate. Well-balanced with medium acidity and tannins. A spicy, dry finish with underlying sweet fruit notes. So versatile but with lamb, it is superb.
