Mocha-dark chocolate with fleshy black plum and campfire smoke aromas on the nose of this full-bodied Merlot. Delicious and dependable. A consistent and accessible Californian Merlot with loads of toasty oak and chocolate flavours. Don't listen to Miles (from the movie Sideways), try this with burgers.

Merlot food pairings: grilled ribs, burgers, cheese, poultry, lamb, grilled sausages.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Deliciously fuller-bodied for Merlot and priced well at $18. Dark fruit, dried herbs, chocolate and a lift of mint on the nose. The palate is mildly tannic with some herbal notes and fresh acidity. Not an overly long but pleasant finish. Perfect wine for Baby Back Ribs, grilled lamb chops, hamburgers, all beef hot dogs.
Tasted: August 2015
Four generations of family have been making wine at Ironstone. You can visit them in the historic Gold Rush town of Murphys in California. Pair with grilled meats. - Community Wine Reviews
