Natalie's Score: 93/100 Henry of Pelham does Baco Noir right: this is best of class. Brooding aromas of black and purple plum, blackberries and blueberries wrapped in smoke. Supple and full-bodied. The 2012 vintage was another strong one for Ontario producers, and especially this winery. Well-structured with a solid finish. Try it tonight. The vines for this Baco Noir wine were planted in 1984, have very low yields and then the wine is matured for 18 months in oak. Could this be the ultimate hamburger wine? I think so as this wine won the beef category for The Great Canadian Wine Match people's choice awards last year.
Baco Noir food pairings: blackened, smoked beef dishes, grilled radicchio, hamburgers.

Reviews and Ratings
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: Think dark brooding fruit, smoke, leather and oak. Henry of Pelham makes one of the best Baco Noir around and this 2012 Reserve doesn't disappoint. This is a wine that tastes as good as it smells. Juicy with some good tannins and acidity and flavours of blackberries and stewed fruit. This is a BBQ wine if there ever was one.
Olivier de Maisonneuve rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: More mysterious on the nose, than the regular baco noir. It has a Spanish Carmen flair. The mouthfeel is sensual. The wine wraps itself around your tongue, and holds tight to it. It has a boudoir feel; rich velvet and candles with impressionist paintings on the wall. Luxurious and erotic at the same time. The well integrated acidity keeps it lively.Well done!
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: A brilliant deep ruby colour with lots of jammy aromas pole vaulting from the glass. Dark plum, cassis, black raspberry, cherry, mocha, coffee, tobacco leaf. The flavours are just as juicy consisting of cherry cordial, blueberry, vanilla, toast, coconut and a long warm spice finish. Acidity is bright and balanced. Tannins are supple. This single varietal Baco Noir spent 15 months in new and one/two year old American Oak barrels. Winemaker suggests this wine will age nicely over the next five to six years. This is a seductive wine. Perfect for Valentine's Day. Pair with game meats, spaghetti and meatballs. Loved it! Tasted: February 2015
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: One of the best representations of a local hero, Baco Noir. Rich plum, blackberry, and vanilla with lots of spice (nutmeg and cinnamon) and a touch of euclyptus. Great wine to pair with grilled meats.
Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: The Henry of Pelham Winery Reserve Baco Noir 2012 is a full bodied beauty. Aromas of cherry, blackberry, raspberry and plum. Nice oak and spice on the finish. November 2016 (90/100)
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: A fragrant dark blackberry and blueberry nose. Rich dark fruit jammy palate with vanilla, a touch of baking spice, forest floor and mocha. Very harmonious, with a complex finish.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Very delicious! Dry, with lots of refined aromas - oak, spice, plum, leather and cherries. Fruit on the palate is bright and flavourful. Cherry and warm spice come through on the palate. Would be great with grilled meats or maybe with some ribs.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: One of the finest single varietal expressions of Baco Noir you can find, anywhere. Henry of Pelham continues to impress Baco lovers with this incredibly round and luscious reserve wine. Dark fruits, roasted peppers, black currant on the nose. The palate is round and full. A bit more acidity would have made this wine even more enjoyable. Tasted February 2015. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: The nose is dark fruit, smoke, licorice and herb. Full bodied, and a tad sweet at 15g/L residual sugar, but the high acidity keeps it in check. Cherry, plum, blackberry, chocolate and spice show through on a slightly warm finish. A fairly burly wine good for game and grilled red meats. Feb 1, 2015
Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review: Blackberry jam with some light white peppery spice on the nose, a hint of leather Peppery, jammy explosion on the palate. Pruney, full bodied with medium acidity, easy tannins. More bbq'd saucy ribs.
