Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Delicious and smooth. Pretty typical of Niagara Merlot - very floral and soft. It is velvety, approachable and medium bodied. Some toasty French oak wraps up the nice plum and cherry aromas. Chocolatey, with some dried cranberry on the finish.
Fans of Featherstone, take heed! Due to the difficulties of the 2014 and 2015 vintages, Featherstone's Merlot vines were ravaged. Since the affable 2013 vintage, none has been bottled. They've replanted, but it can take at least four years before a vine can produce useable grapes. Stock up to make it through the Merlot-less years ahead.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Featherstone's 2013 Red Tail Merlot pays homage to the winery's use of falconry to protect their crop from swarms of nuisance birds. And they're the sole Ontario winery to embrace this eco-friendly crop management practice. Their 2013 Red Tail Merlot is easy going and very approachable. A nice balance of fruit and herbs; dark cherry, plum, cedar, and spice shine through on the smooth and very well balanced palate. Enjoy with roast pork, Thanksgiving meals, or on its own. Drink 2015-2018. Tasted September 2015. 88 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
