Juicy and robust with firm tannins and a grip on the palate that will smooth out somewhat with 1-2 hours of decanting and additional cellar time. Black fruit, tar and smoke with toasty oak. Pair with a rare steak. The 2012 vintage is a red wine blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc grapes. Finishes with black spice.

Food pairings: veal chops, barbecued veal chops in red wine sauce, strong cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Deep purple colour with a spirited, fruity bouquet- dark plum, black cherry and baking spices. Flavours echo those with dark chocolate, graphite minerals and light pepper heat. Perfectly balanced, medium plus acidity, body, tannins and finish with dried fruit persisting at the end. Incredibly well integrated and put together. This can hold up to some more time in the cellar nicely. Try this with tourtiere or roast beef au jus. 87 points - tasted May 2018
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

From Entre-Deux-Mers, Chateau Le Grand Verdus Reserve 2015 crafted with Merlot at 60% and Cabernet Sauvignon at 40%, shows aromas of blackberry, fresh herbs and a touch of oak. With a medium body and finish, Chateau Le Grand Verdus offers tart blackberry, fresh cut grass, bay leaves and an earthy note. The tannins are soft and lively with herbal acidity. This food friendly wine will pair well with blue cheese or steak. Enjoy.

Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted May 20th, 2018. Colour medium ruby red. Legs medium thick. Aromas and flavours of, dark plum, blueberry, violets, black cherry, bitter chocolate. Taste dry plus, medium plus mouthfeel, nice integrated tannin, mouthwatering minus, medium alcohol. Finish long dark fruit, bitter chocolate, chalky clay. I like this wine. Good value. Has some character I had a sirloin burger and the wine gave the burger a taste lift. Give it a try.
Château Le Grand Verdus Réserve 2015 is a great value red under $20 from the Bordeaux wine region. This Bordeaux Supérieur is a lush blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc with black cherry, blackberry fruit flavours, savoury spice and anise on the palate. This vintage was awarded Gold at the 2017 Concours de Bordeaux vins d'aquitaine. Drink now and over the next three years. - Community Wine Reviews
