I recommend the Chocolate Block every vintage as it's a consistently great wine! This full-bodied red wine is a blend of mostly shiraz grapes and some grenache, cabernet sauvignon, cinsault and a splash of viognier grapes. It's savoury, complex and delicious: wow! Cassis, blackberry and cedar forest. Meaty and enticing, full-bodied wonderful with a concentrated weave of anise, cigar box, pepper and meaty notes. Extremely juicy and mouthwatering in a food-happy kind of way. Balanced and delicious: this is a terrific red to red if you're not familiar with South African wines, or even if you are. Highly recommended.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From South Africa's Western Cape, a delicious Syrah blend with small amounts of Cab Sauv, Grenache, Cinsault and Viognier. Aromas of red berries and earth lead to a layered palate giving ripe red fruit, earth, dried herbs, slight mocha and oak. Extra-dry with great structure and lingering elegant finish.
The acidity on this wine is balanced and comes in at 3.8 pH. A robust South African red wine that's a blend of 70% Syrah, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Grenache, 6% Cinsault and 1% Viognier. There were 1735 barrels produced of this wine. Fresh, vibrant, complex, rich and deep. - Community Wine Review
