From Boekenhoutskloof, The Chocolate Block 2022 is a vegan friendly and savoury red wine blend of mostly Syrah sourced from the Goldmine and Porseleinberg vineyards, with 9% Grenache, 8% Cinsault, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Viognier added to the mix. Enticingly fragrant with red berry, dark cherry and chocolate flavours with a hint of cinnamon on the palate and velvety tannins, enjoy it through 2029.

Food pairings: steaks and burgers from the grill, roast chicken, veal chops from the grill.

Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This blend is predominantly Syrah (77%), rounded out with Grenache (9%), Cinsault, (8%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), and Viognier (1%). Aromas of blueberry and blackberry, along with hints of sweet earth, graphite, and cigar box. Full bodied, rounded and smooth, with medium+ acidity on the palate. Fruit notes are rich and deeply concentrated, and the finish is smooth and lengthy. Enjoy with slow braised beef dishes.

As rich on the nose as it is on the palate, it is fragrant with ripe dark cherry, goji berry, blueberry, cracked black pepper and toasty oak spice flavours plushy on the palate. So good now, enjoy it through 2029. - Community Wine Reviews
