From Bodega del Abad, Abad Dom Bueno 2017 Mencía is a mouth-watering 100% Mencía produced from old vines in the Bierzo wine region. Mencia is a Spanish grape and this medium-bodied wine has dark cherry, dark berry, plum and spicy toasty oak flavours on the palate. Quite a bit of toasty oak influence right now and the wine would benefit from some time in cellar to mellow and marry. Try in 2023.

Mencía food pairings: roast venison, rabbit stew, gamebird casserole.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Abad Dom Bueno 2017, harvested in the vineyards of Villafranca del Bierzo and Valtuille de Arriba, offers aromas of black cherry, plum, black licorice, smoke, spice and vanilla. Made from the Mencia grape, This Spanish shows a full body, with suave tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is long with some spicy notes. Palate: sour cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, smoke, spice and cocoa. Enjoy!
