This complex, subtle and full-bodied cabernet sauvignon has great elegance and a long finish. Dark fruit and smoke notes on this red wine, with lots of layers and great cellar potential. Superb craftsmanship. Highly recommended. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this benchmark wine are grown in one of Napa Valley's greatest vineyards. Winemaker Laurie Hook's superb craftsmanship is evident. The wine is aged for about 18 months in custom-toasted new French oak barrels. Pair with rare filet mignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: hearty meat dishes, hard cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

Beringer's top of the line Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful expression of the rich and full bodied Cabernet that Napa has become so well known for around the world. Rich and complex, the nose and palate display stewed black fruit, plum, fig, baking spice, mocha, with a touch of leather and campfire. Gorgeous full bodied wine that's showing so well now there's no need to wait to enjoy this iconic wine, but if you choose to it will only improve with another decade in the cellar. Would make a fine holiday gift for someone that appreciates fine prized wines. Tasted November 2015. 95 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Aged 17 mos in new French oak, a luscious full-bodied Napa Cab Sauv with a fragrant nose, showing strawberry jam, ripe cherry, vanilla, mint and slight vegetal notes on a smooth, layered, XD palate.
A sure hit with the Cab Sauv lover on your gift list.
Tasted December 2015
The 2011 vintage of this Californian Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is made from grapes grown in only two winery estate vineyards, the Steinhauer Vineyard on Howell Mountain (71%) and St. Helena Home Vineyard (29%). The wine has a high pH of 3.9 as the grapes were able to ripen fully, yet it remains balanced with great structure. This Cabernet was matured for 17 months in new French oak barrels, then another 12 months in the bottle before being released from the winery. Great cellar wine. - Community Wine Reviews
