Santa Carolina Carignan 2010, Cauquenes Valley, Maule Valley, Chile: Complex, dry and savoury Chilean red wine with gorgeously rich black fruit aromas and flavours. Pleasant tarry-tart black cranberry on the finish. Full-bodied with a velvet smooth texture. The Carignan grapes are dry farmed, which adds richness, depth and character to the wine. Dry farming means that the grapes are not irrigated and must rely on the rain water that nature provides, however little that is in dry climates like this one. It also has the effect of producing smaller grapes or berries with more concentrated flavours. Drink: 2012-2018. 213520 14.50% XD 750 mL  $18.95 Score: 91/100. Château Saint-Roch Domaine Lafage Chimères 2012, Côtes du Roussillon-Villages, Midi A.P., France: Love the incredible range of styles that the Rhone region produces, like this intriguing red wine blend. Platonic ideal of concentration and depth with a long, sensuous finish that leaves you bathed in flavour satisfaction. Pair with hearty meat dishes and deep conversations. Produced by Domaine Lafage, this robust Rhone red wine from 2012 vintage of this Cotes du Roussillon Chimeres is a blend of mostly Grenache and Syrah grapes, with a splash of Carignan. Runkel Pinot Noir 2012, Quälitatswein, Rheinhessen, Germany: An expansive, aromatic German red wine with gorgeous notes of black cherry, earth and smoke. Medium-bodied, supple and smooth. This is a staggeringly great price for Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is Germany's flagship red wine, in my opinion and it clocks in at a fraction of the price of Burgundy or even New World regions.
