Alamos The Wines Of Catena Torrontés 2012, Salta, Argentina: Pretty and floral with very pleasant lime blossom aromas. Medium-bodied and ultra food-friendly. Such an aromatic and characterful wine. It reminds me of some of my favourite supporting actors, which don't always have their name at the top of the marquee, but nonetheless put in a memorable performance. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. This one especially is a terrific one to try if you haven't done so yet. Great value. Sur de los Andes Reserva Malbec 2011, Mendoza, Argentina: Rich and full-bodied with an incredible price point. Layers of fleshy dark fruit cry out for a meaty dish companion. Rutherglen Estates Petit Sirah 2008, Victoria, Australia: A robust, big bruiser of a wine with aromas of black fruit and smoke. Supple on the palate with more robust flavours coming through. Cries out for a juicy steak! This wine is matured for about a year in oak barrels, imparting an attractive vanilla spice on the finish. A previous vintage of this wine won the Gold medal at the Rutherglen Wine Show. The winery picks the Petit Sirah grapes at different times and ripeness levels to give the finished wine a wide range of flavours and complexity. Kilikanoon Wines The Lackey Shiraz 2010, South Australia, Australia: Rich and full-bodied with classic Aussie Shiraz character. Big black fruit, a hint of mint and a savoury depth. Incredibly great price. The Lackey represents terrific value in this producer's line-up. There's some lovely blackberry, cassis and spice on the finish. Highly recommended. Champy Signature Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2010, A.C., Burgundy, France: Gorgeous layers of voluptuously rich fleshy cherry-berry fruit. The nose is so aromatic, it'll draw you head-first into the glass. Rich and textured, this is amazing quality for this price point. I like the mouth-watering acidity for a wide range of dishes from smoked salmon to roast chicken. Pinyolet Cva Grenache 2011, D.O., Montsant, Spain: Juicy and full-bodied with a lovely smooth texture. Leather and earth aromas, with some black plum and spice. Nice maturity here. Decant 2 hours for maximum pleasure. Great value. this is made from 100% Grenache grapes from a vineyard planted in 1962 on limestone soils and was matured in stainless steel on its lees. Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling 2011, Evergreen Vineyard, Columbia Valley, Washington State, United States: Lovely and light with a lime-petrol intensity and a white floral finish.
