Natalie's Score: 91/100

This robust Italian red wine is made in one of the more southerly wine regions of the country, where the grapes ripen to full flavour and depth. The 2011 vintage of the Rivera Il Falcone is a blend of mostly Nero di Troia grapes and some Montepulciano grapes. Savoury, smoky and brooding with fleshy black fruit aromas and flavours. Ultra-delicious and smooth already in texture. Southern Italy has undergone a quality revolution. Taste this red to see what I mean. Pair this wine with hearty meat dishes.

Food pairings: lamb cutlets, beef stew, grilled chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A blended red gem from Puglia, Italy. 70% Nero di Troia and 30% Montepulciano. Deep purple, dark and inky coloured. Pronounced and complex aromas of rich dried dark fruit, prune, plum, rust and metallic notes. Earthy elements of game and blood sausage. Cinnamon and blackberry in the mouth carry alongside salty minerals. High acidity, medium tannins and body. Exquisite flavours. Complex and rich. An excellent Nero di Troia. Decant for 1-2 hours before enjoying. Pair with lamb sausage and herb-rubbed grilled meats. Tasted November 2017
From the Puglia wine region, Rivera Il Falcone Riserva Castel Del Monte (2011) is a robust Italian red made with mostly Nero di Troia red wine grapes and some Montepulciano grapes. The wine is medium-plus for body, rich with cherry, wild herbs, leather and smoke on the palate. - Community Wine Reviews
