The wine of the night! Rich and lush dark berry fruit, cherry, chocolate and coffee, with pepper and nuanced herbal notes, this is classic Douro. MIldly chewy tannins and well balanced acidity round out a lingering aftertaste that has a slightly sweet drk cherry profile - well done and an easy drinker.

Great nose of mocha, red berries, vanilla and terroir in abundant nuances. Chapoutier really really hit the entry level jackpot when he started in Rousillon years ago. great wine. Drink now - Paul

A much more complex and integrated cabby than the price point implies ($14US). Loads of blackberry, dark currant and plum, with spice and and mocha leading to a medium tannic finish, add to that a good acidic, juicy aftertaste and you have a cabbie worth everyday drinking. drnk now - Paul

Vintner's Reserve

Another good showing for the style and price point. Green apples, vanilla and a slight nutty profile are front and center, but as it warms a citrus presence shows itself - a slightly creamy viscous back palate creates a medium aftertaste.

The winemaker's notes call this a big powerful wine. Not so much. It does open to add depth and some strength, but it takes a good 45-60 mns. to open fully and the end result was a red berry driven wine with medium tannins, smallish pepper notes and a decent ending acidity. Honestly don't think this worth the nearly $25 it takes to buy locally. Paul

With the exception of a small percentage of stinkers - it's usually the one in my hand. I do love the syrah grape, however.
