Riserva

Fontanafredda Riserva Barolo 2007

Piedmont D.O.C.G., Italy

Louise Boutin scored this wine: 95/100

Produced only in good vintages from low yield specific vineyards, this beauty has a darker garnet color than most Barolos. Expressive nose — dark cherry, dry roses, tobacco, licorice and dry figs. A long maturation process both in French barriques and casks and then in bottle leads to an elegant wine with fine-grain tannins and a long heart warming balanced balsamic flavour finish. Resist aerating/decanting as per winemaker’s recommandation and let this spectacular Barolo slowly reveal itself in the glass. Enjoy with aged cheeses, dry fruits and walnuts. Tasted Oct 29th,2017

Contessa Rosa

A soft-pink sparkling made of Pinot Noir and chardonnay...so far nothing to write home about. Here’s the kicker; Fontanafredda Barolo 1967 is used as liquor d’expedition in a meticulous and lengthy “Spumante Metodo Classico” and transforms this most regulated DOCG bubbly into a unique wine full of character. Earthy, citrus, ginger, brioche and minerality aromas. On the palate, the bubbles are fine and elegant with fresh citrusy and earthy delicious long finish. Terrific! Versatile and will pair well with just about anything. Try with antipasto. Reviewed on Oct. 29th, 2017

La Rosa

Fontanafredda La Rosa Barolo 2012

The complex and layered nose of this Barolo— rose petal, dry figs, gamy and licorice is tremendously inviting. No disappointment on the palate with delicious ripe and dry fruits, licorice, grippy yet elegant tannins and comforting warm finish. This “La Rosa” single-vineyard powerhouse represents the interpretation of a specific microclimate in the Fontanafredda portfolio. Enjoy with a rare grilled flank steak or sip after dinner with nuts and dry fruits. Tasted on Oct 29th, 2017

Medium yellow rich color Sauvignon blanc hinting to oak ageing which is confirmed on the first nose. Oak is elegant leaving space to nice aromas of quince, yellow apple and minerality. Palate is ample and round without being heavy courtesy of lively acidity. Finish is medium+ long with vanilla, quince and citrus flavours. Quite enjoyable with grilled halibut and lemon butter.

Raimonda

Fontanafredda Raimonda Barbera D'alba 2015

Piedmont D.O.C., Italy

This Barbera d’Alba DOC from single vineyard is a remarquable value. The nose is generous with aromas of blackberry, ripe black plum combined with forest floor, mushroom and vanilla. The mouthfeel is surpringly very silky before the young tannins and acidity make their presence known to frame a black fruit and cocoa powder med-long dry finish. Partial ageing in large French and Slovanian oak casks and French small barrels before blending provides character and complexity to this delicious red. Can be enjoyed now with 1-2 hours of aeration before service but an additional 2-5 years of cellaring should pay off. Pair with rare prime rib. Tasted on Oct 29th, 2017
