Slightly closed on the nose at first, the dried, stewed fruit typical to Amarone presents itself nicely after some time to breathe. Warming and packing a significant tannic punch, this Amarone stimulates the palate more than it does the nose. Wonderful flavours of ripe, stewed berries, with some spice notes. This Masi is not as heavy as as some Amarones, but is wonderfully balanced with a lingering ripe, almost candied fruit finish. This is the wine to bring out with the prime rib for a celebratory dinner.

Black cherry, pepper and smoke greet the taster. The rather low tannin content makes for a slightly lighter Baco, with some well-balanced acidity. Ripe dark cherries dominate the palate of this very versatile wine. Crisp yet full, this had a medium finish of dark cherry and pepper. Drink by itself or pair with hard cheeses or meat dishes; there's not much that this wine won't work well with.

Rich, stewed fruit on the nose with a bit of pepper and anise shows a bit of sweetness on the palate while maintaining some acidity. Nice grippy tannins integrate well with the jammy flavours of this full-bodied wine. Well-rounded and mouth-filling, this old-world wine has some significant crowd appeal. Lingering notes of stewed fruit and spice hang on as the tanning dry the mouth. Try this instead of California Cab with grilled T-Bone steaks for a change.

Nose of ripe and tantalizing fruit with some smokiness. Superbly balanced on the palate, with a complex mix of plums, white pepper, blackberry and a bit of buttery sweetness at the end. Very round and balanced, the alcohol, tannins and acidity all combine in harmony for a great sipping wine. This wine is great by itself, but would also pair well with hearty meat dishes. Well done!

Light but sweet nose of white flower blossoms lead into an equally delicate palate of field strawberries. Nice mouth-watering and refreshing acidity, perfect for a hot summer day. This is light and delicate enough that I'd just sip it by itself on the patio. Just pair it with another glass of itself!
