Wild Goose Vineyards Gewurztraminer 2015

Wild Goose is a BC producer that specializes in producing Alsatian varietals such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris at a very reasonable price. While I think the standout in their white lineup is their Riesling, this Gewürz is very tasty. Slight floral aromas mixed with honey on nose. On the palate these flavours are amped up with honeysuckle, spiced vanilla, floral notes & minerality on the finish.

The Boxer

Pow! This wine hit me right in the kisser with its huge, over-extracted fruit flavours. Bam! Here comes the vanilla and licorice from the oak. Kaboom! The 16.5% ABV hits me and...3,2,1...I'm out for the count! In all seriousness, I can see the appeal in the ripe flavours of this wine and there is some great Shiraz black pepper on the finish. But the high alcohol really detracted from my enjoyment - I had a headache after 1 glass!

Old Vines

Sperling Vineyards Old Vines Riesling 2013

V.Q.A., Okanagan Valley, Bc, Canada

Nicole scored this wine: 90/100

This wine comes from vines planted in 1978. I was getting some distinct petrol on the nose similar to what I'd expect in a German Riesling with some age on it. This is a drier style Riesling (12.4% ABV). On the palate it displays flavours of green apple, lemon, and lime with high acidity and a lingering finish. A very well-made wine and a great example of what the varietal can do here.

Nk'Mip Cellars Dreamcatcher 2015

Could this "kitchen sink" blend of Riesling, Sauv Blanc, Enhrenfelser, Pinot Blanc & Chardonnay be the best Dreamcatcher to date? It gets my vote! The nose is pure Sauv Blanc - citrusy & grassy. The palate is a great blend of Riesling & SB with zingy citrus, stonefruit, green pepper and minerality. It gets additional weight from the Pinot Blanc and Chard. Not really sure exactly what the Ehrenfelser contributes ?? but no matter - this is a delightful easy-drinking (& easy on the wallet) wine!

Confidence Frizzante

8th Generation Vineyard Confidence Frizzante Pinot Noir 2012

There's no confusing this BC rosé sparkler with a a rosé Champagne - but hey, how many Champagnes can you get for under $25? Despite being made in the frizzanté method, this displays an impressive mousse. An unusual combo of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris this leans towards off-dry - similar to BC PGs from Kettle Valley & Nichol, which have skin contact - Confidence shares the same beautiful medium salmon colour as these PGs. While being fruit forward, minerality & citrus on the finish provide balance
