Mario scored this wine: 88/100

This blend made from 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah is a real expression of the Cotes Du Rhone terroir. La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 made by Stephane Vedeau, a third generation winemaker, is a full bodied wine that reveals the strength and potency of these grapes that are beautifully blended to create this Cotes Du Rhone's signature. Visual examination: Crystal clear, ruby red, consistent with many narrow arches surrounding the glass revealing a high presence of alcohol. Olfactory examination: Intense, complex, very fine quality wine, La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 reveals fruity notes of plums, strawberry jam, pomegranate and blackberry that combine elegantly with black pepper and coffee nuances. Taste-olfactory examination: dry, warm with 14% abv but smooth this wine, as all Vedeau's wines is beautifully balanced by a good acidity. The tannins are still strong making this wine better if is tasted in the next three to five years. Balanced, intense and persistent aftertaste, La Ferme Du Mont Le Ponnant 2012 is a fine quality wine, ready to drink but still with more potential if kept in the cellar. Try with grilled lamb. 88 points, but could be more in a couple of years.

Mario scored this wine: 90/100

A typical GSM, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre blend with a terrific balance and an even more terrific price (just $14.95 at the LCBO). La Ferme Du Mont Premiere Cote by Stephane Vedeau, the brilliant third generation winemaker from Cotes Du Rhone is true expression of his philosophy to creating balanced wine respecting the terroir, the grapes, the acidity and the tannicity. All the grapes blended (Grenache 60%, Syrah 30%, Mourvèdre 10%) give their beautiful notes resulting in a very harmonious wine. The leathery and gamey notes from Syrah are softened by the fine herbal notes from Provence coming from Mourvèdre with the Grenache being the backbone with its beautiful aromas of licorice and spices. Visual Examination: Crystal clear, ruby red, this is a fine quality wine that reveals floral and spicy notes surrounded by a very prominent bouquet of Provençal herbs notably thyme. Taste-Olfactory examination: dry, warm with its 14% abv, this wine is smooth but very well balanced by a fresh acidity able to contrast the tannins. Balanced, with an intense and persistent aftertaste in your mouth. La Ferme Du Mont 2012 Premiere Cote is a full bodied wine ready to drink and harmonious. Try it with mushroom risotto. 90 points really deserved.

Elegant, complex with floral notes, with a good acidity to balance the alcohol. This wine made with 100% Roussanne a typical grape from Savoie, Provence and Cotes Du Rhone and is a true gem. This is the real expression of Stephane Vedeau, the brilliant and talented La Ferme Du Mont third generation winemaker from Cotes du Rhone. Visual examination: at the first sight the wine appears straw to golden yellow and crystal clear. The consistency, due to 14% abv is strong with many legs surrounding the glass after swirling. Olfactory examination: Intense and complex, this is a fine quality wine that expresses notes of cooked apples, dried apricots, hazelnuts, sap and bee’s wax. Taste-olfactory examination: dry wine with warm alcoholicity, La Ferme Du Mont Clos Bellane 2012 is very smooth and balanced by a freshness given by the prominent acidity. Very good wine, intense and persistent in the aftertaste, full bodied and ready to drink. 88 points very deserved

The Red

Mountadam Estate The Red 2009

High Eden, Eden Valley, South Australia, Australia

Mario scored this wine: 92/100

Delicate but complex and intense. It is always difficult to assemble all the wine components properly. In fact, especially in reds, it is common to find wines with too much alcohol and tannins which overwhelm the fruit. Of course, climate has a great effect on the outcome of the wine and this is exactly the case of “The Red” High Eden from Mountadam 2009. A distinctive blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc following the classic Bordeaux style. Visual examination: deep red in colour with a purple hue. Leges surround the glass after swirling the wine revealing a good percentage of alcohol and structure. Olfactory examination: intense but delicate at the same time with evident notes of licorice, ripe plums, red capsicum, blackberry, tar, vanilla, ink cherries and balsamic notes of eucalyptus and mint and a vibrant final of firewood. Taste/olfactory examination: intense and persistent in the mouth, the tannins are relevant but smooth at the same time. A full bodied wine very well balanced that can give its best paired with roasted rack of lamb with herbs.

Eidosela Albariño 2013

Rias Baixas D.O., Spain

Mario scored this wine: 87/100

With summer coming there is nothing better than a chilled glass of white wine, fruity and refreshing but also with a good body. Eidosela Vintage 2013 is the classic expression of Rias Baixas a famous winegrowing area located in Galicia in the Northwest of Spain, influenced by the Atlantic ocean. Albariño is the most important grape grown along with Loureira and Treixadura (Godello and Mencia are mainly cultivated in Valdeorras). This area is also known as Green Spain and due to this kind of this Maritime climate the wines are very acidic. The thick skin of the Albariño grape impart a good structure and body to these wines easily recognizable for the typical aroma of peaches. Visual examination: crystal clear, with a straw yellow colour, moderately consistent. Olfactory examination: moderately intense, moderately complex, fine in quality this Albariño has the typical peach flavour combined with citrus and mineral notes with a finish of pear and pineapple. Delicate white floral notes are also present in the bouquet. Taste -olfactory examination: dry, moderately warm, moderately smooth, Eidosela is fresh and moderately sapid. Moderately balanced, moderately intense and moderately persistent after tasted, it is a fine quality wine with a medium structure that makes it ready to drink. It pairs very well with grilled scallops and shellfish.
