Spicy, peppery, packed with jammy black fruit but not heavy. Mouth-watering juicy and lovely. The Seghesio Zinfandel is one of Californian's best Zins. This wine has been produced since 1895 and today the vines are about 30 years old. Serious zing for fun barbecues. The grapes for this Zinfandel grow in vineyards planted in the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek in Sonoma. Pair with gourmet hamburgers.

Zinfandel food pairings: prime rib, grilled pork, chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby-purple. An ideal blend of those two colours. On the nose, stewed fruit, dark-skinned plum, black cherry, grilled red pepper, toast and coffee. Very jammy and plummy. Flavours reflect and echo the bouquet with the additions of some red fruit chutney, rich candied apple and cherry pie filling notes. Medium plus acidity, full body and long finish. Subtle, yet rich tannins. Some sweetness at the end. Fruity, juicy and full. A perfect pairing with barbecued pork ribs, beef tenderloin and aged cheeses.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

This Zinfandel has aromas of strawberries, red licorice, vanilla, sweet spice and a touch of pepper. It has flavours of strawberries and raspberries and has fresh acidity on the palate. Would pair nicely with barbecued ribs.

Tasted October 2017
From Sonoma County, Seghesio Zinfandel is one of California's best Zins. Produced since 1895, this Zinfandel has a long history. Grapes were sourced from vineyards in Alexander Valley and Dry Creek in Sonoma. On the palate there is lots of small and ripe black and red berries with dried herbs and peppery anise spice on the palate. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
