From Buchahueico, Malleco Valley wine region, San Pedro 1865 Tayú 2019 Pinot Noir is brought to us from The Mapuche, which means “people of the land”. "Tayu" means “Ours” in Mapudungun and the making of this wine is based on their understanding of the grape and based on a traditional approach. Dry, medium-bodied and fragrant on the nose with bright cherry, spice and herbal aromas of Chilean wild herbs, paico and boldo, as well as mint. Finishes long with brilliant acidity. Tannins are firm.

Pinot Noir food pairings: lamb chops, veal cutlets, turkey tournedos, chicken from the grill, roast Cornish game hen.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

There's a great story behind the impressive Tayu Pinot Noir, involving indigenous Chilean families and vineyards in the far south of Chile in the community of Buchahueico. The result is a unique, refreshing, and delicious Pinot which is sure to be loved by many.

This expressive Pinot comes from a cool climate region with very unique terroir. The result is a delicious Pinot you'd expect to pay double for! Complex and well structured, the dark cherry and berry fruit is countered by sweet spice, herbs, earth, and leather notes. Enjoy over the next few years with Arrollado de Huaso, Pernil, or Chilean Empanadas. Tasted October 2021. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Rustic and robust. Aromas of cherry, strawberry and violets, with earthy bramble notes and campfire smoke. Medium+ bodied, with bright acidity, and light, drying tannins on the palate. Fruit notes are ripe and bright with tart hints, and smoke and spice hints on the finish. Enjoy with grilled pork or mushroom dishes.
