Reviews and Ratings
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: This is a good value wine. For a little under half the cost of other Riserva it's an every day Chianti that you would pour mid week with your pasta dinner or sausages on the BBQ. The oak is prevalent on the nose with aromas of vanilla, spice and leather. Underlying cherry fruit. Medium body mouth feel with a medium finish.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: An awesome everyday Chianti! It's a bargain for what it offers! The nose shows inviting aromas of cherry, dried herbs, mint and cedar. The palate reflects the nose with pronounced acidity, young (medium) tannins and a long tart cherry finish. Enjoy this medium bodied Chianti with tomato sauce based dishes, roasts and stews. Tasted Jan 2016.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Dep ruby, the nose shows some red fruit behind charred oak and coffee notes. On the palate, the toasty oak is dominant with cherry and berry peaking through the coffee, vanilla and spice notes. Medium bodied and balanced acidity and tannins, the wine does open up and improve with an hour of air. Tasted blind February 2016. Good value for those who like a more robust oak treatment.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Lots of ripe dark fruit and dried fruit aromas on this Chianti Reserva, with dried fruit, plums and raisins on the palate. Balanced and very enjoyable with rich heavy winter fare such as roast pork tenderloin and mushroom risotto.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review: This wine is ruby red and declared at 13.5% ABV. Aromatics of ripe cherry, cranberry, fresh pomegranate, blackberry and fresh spearmint leaf with a hint of cedar plank. On the palate this wine offers dark chocolate, cherry, strawberry and mint. A wonderful value priced Chianti which pairs exceptionally well with mushroom infused pork roast, and turkey with dark gravy and all the fixings. Medium body, medium tannins, medium acidity, this wine is well balanced and could be enjoyed best between 2016-2018. Tasted Jan 2016.
Trevor Sabourin - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review: The nose seems dominated by charred wood, smoke, coffee, and burnt rubber, but there is some dark cherry and raspberry fruit hiding underneath. A bit more balanced flavour-wise on the palate. I personally found the oak treatment on this wine distracting, and making it not very representative of Chianti. This wine would definitely appeal to those who like South African pinotage. Tasted blind, Feb. 2016.
Adam Sommelier reviewed this wine as follows: Rocato is the the Top End Cuvée of this house and was the first "Super Tuscan" I remember enjoying. it's nice to see the predominant notes and structure follow suit through all price ranges and designations, including gun this one. The nose is distinct and pungent, and lots of depth of character. Petroleum is what jumps out first and turns to dark chocolate, balsamic and raspberries. The wine is light on the palate and refreshing but doesn't lack body. The tannins are little rustic but I don't mind that from a Chianti under 20$. Pick it up, make some pasta and relax. Quick tip, best way to make a perfect pairing is to use the wine you're drinking in the dish!
