As they say: lashings of black fruit with a tarry streak through it. Full-bodied and scrumptious, ready to meet any hearty meat dish head on. Some earthiness and pepper on the finish. Supremely satisfying.

Dogliani food pairings: Greek marinated lamb ribs on the grill, souvlaki, spanokapita pie.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

100% Dolcetto from a great region. Rather than a simple Dolcetto DOC, this wine carries the Dogliani DOCG - meaning it is a better quality wine from a more signature terroir. Dolcetto is a delicate, low acid grape that contrasts plum and currant deliciousness with some surprisingly bracing mineral structure from the soils of its home, in Piemont. It's name means, "Little Sweet One," but that only refers to the grapes on the vine - not the end product.
Medium ruby, with some purple accents.

This wine is competently made. It was picked to retain structure and not simply for max ripeness. The result is a wine with aromatics and backbone. Aromas of craisin, currant, fig, earth, pepper, and petunias.

Fresh flavours of cherry, cranberry, with a touch of woodsiness and Piemontese minerality make it an elegant pairing for oyster mushrooms or lamb.

It has a moderate alcohol of around 13.5% and didn't receive extensive oak treatment. Probably a short regimen in more neutral used oak and a longer time resting in bottle
Generally, unless it is a better example, it is not intended for aging. This one has a few years to go, but you want to have it when the fruit are still gorgeous and fresh, instead of stewed and too soft.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This wine made the top 100 in the Wine Spectator magazine in 2015. From Italy, the Dogliani 2013, crafted at Poderi Luigi Einaudi, is made exclusively from Dolcetto. Lovely aromas of red cherry, prune, white pepper, leather, baking spice and almond will make you salivate for the first sip. Medium body with pleasant tannins, the Dogliani reveals a light fruity finish, excellent for a pasta dish. Cherry and plum open up in the palate, followed by a touch of pepper, dried herbs, leather and almond. Enjoy!
