Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 97/100 with the following review:

Penfolds Grange has carved its proper place in history as being Australia's most highly regarded wine for the past forty plus years. These wines are carefully crafted into absolute perfection, start to finish. This 2002 version was sourced from 77.5% Barossa Valley and 22.5% from McLaren Vale. Included in the blend is 1.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It spent 17 months in 100% new American oak. Grange tells a story, it boasts the stylistic vision of Max Schubert and his want and desire to achieve this top quality production without ever compromising or wavering from any step along the way. What a bouquet - violets, leather, chocolate, pencil, black fruit and oak - a silky texture and wonderful balance with decadent flavors of licorice, blackberry, and spice. It is so packed with layers of richness and elegance - Peter Gago and his team have outdone themselves in the creation of this masterpiece. Drink through 2050. These wines requires mid-long term cellaring to allow them to develop into wines that are simply off the charts. Wow!
To top it off, sharing this 2002 Vintage with DLynn Proctor, Master Sommelier and passionate Penfolds Ambassador was a delightful experience not soon to be forgotten.

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
