This wine blows my mind, really. How does this wine get better every year when it started off with such a high bar? Black pepper sprinkled over wild black cherries on a bed of violets. Full-bodied, exotic and delightful. Layers of hedonistic pleasure. The finish goes on and on.

Syrah food pairings: wild game, bison or duck.

Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 95/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock Estate Grown Syrah (2014) has serious “wow” factor. I decanted the Syrah one-half hour prior to taking a sniff, but even across the room it was calling to me with its dark cherry liqueur, sagey, floral and spicy nose. This is a bewitching, deep ruby-red; one that you could be content to sniff at all day as it opens and evolves. Well, maybe not entirely content. Dry, on the palate, the unfiltered, medium-plus bodied red is so fresh and delicious. Ripe, rich dark cherry, berry, savoury spice and sagey herb flavours spread luxuriously across the palate finishing long with dark cherry, ripe blueberry and spicy white pepper flavours. Tannins are fine-grained, velvety and acidity is fresh and in perfect balance on this elegant, made-in-British Columbia beauty. Drink now and pair it with a roast leg of lamb or roast pheasant. You can also cellar it for three or more years, but I couldn’t. This vintage was aged 18 months in 30% new oak of which 80% was French and 20% was American.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Tasted the 2014 vintage in Oct 2017 after a 2 h decant. Fleshy ripe plum, smoked cedar plank, tobacco leaf, black peppercorn. Deeply concentrated and complex. Medium tannins, medium acidity. Paired well with cedar plank salmon and roasted root vegetables or a chili con carne infused with dark chocolate. 91 points BespokeTastings
