Spectacular BC Syrah with savoury herbs, cedar brush, fresh earth, wild dark berries and spice. Wowsers! Stay with me here, but this wine also smells like marijuana in a seductively complex way. Cannabis actually has a complex array of aromas from its terpines: you'll get rosemary, black pepper and others that are also the basis for essential oils. It's definitely there on the nose of this wine and I love it. Pair this with more Syrah ... or perhaps an announcement from our new prime minister on legalization. Which one? Let's hope the new government is also liberal enough to allow Canadians to buy wines grown and made outside their province. Surely that can't be as provocative as the other new law they're considering. Raise a toast to common sense.

Syrah food pairings: roast rack of lamb, grilled bison burgers, roast of venison with red currant and red wine coulis.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Painted Rock's 2012 vintage Syrah is one of the finest Syrah's to come out of the Okanagan Valley. Deep ruby red in colour, is loaded with rich dark berries, roasted beets, sweet spice, and savoury smoked meat notes. The palate is round and silky smooth, packed full with ripe berries, and velvety smooth tannins. An incredible wine to enjoy now or cellar and enjoy until 2022. Tasted September 2015. 93 points.
