Natalie's Score: 93/100

So creamy, rich and seductively complex. This is a more richly woven Sauvignon Blanc than the winery's entry-level version. There's a longer pungency and persistence of flavours. Very mouth-filling and luscious with surprising lift and vibrancy. Winemaker Anthony is after more ripe tropical fruit in this expression, such as passion fruit, melon, and guava. So vibrant and expressive with clean slate and white citrus on the finish. Pair with mussels, oysters and scallops.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: Margherita pizza, salad, pork, strong cheese.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This wine which commands attention, and it’s well worth the time on the palate. This wine is composed of small parcel lots grown in East West rows to ensure even ripening. Beautiful on the palate and on the nose, this wine offers Marlborough typicity with an elegant and unique expression. Big guava with fresh gooseberry, minerality, citrus peel. A great find. 92 points - tasted 2017 vintage in Nov 2017. Paired exceptionally well with mulligatawny chicken soup.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A mighty, crisp and delicious small lot Sauvignon Blanc showcasing intense guava, passion fruit and lemongrass aromas. The palate is rich and zesty with bold lingering lemon and green pineapple flavours. Enjoy this dry juicy (high acid) summer sipper with grilled shrimp and pineapples. A wonderful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with passion fruit, apple, gooseberry and intense lemon notes on the palate. Wonderful body and acidity with great flavors. Tasted Dec 2017 and paired with coconut shrimp.
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Pale lemon green colour, pronounced intensity aromas of citrus, pear, apple, guava, asparagus. Dried grass and of course - Gooseberry! Flavours of lemon-lime, white grapefruit, green apple and tart kiwi freshness. Also a note of stoney minerals. High acidity, medium body and medium minus finish with citrus at the end. Super fresh and zingy. Perfect to pair with herbed goat cheese and mixed greens salad, asparagus and dill stuffed trout.

Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted Sep 3, 2018. Colour medium yellow. Legs thin. Aromas and flavours of, passion fruit, kiwi, lime lemon grapefruit and gooseberry. Taste dry minus, tropical fruit, light body, mouthwatering plus, low alcohol. Finishes medium plus mouthwatering fruity. We had Cajun grilled shrimp. Pair with white chocolate or try it with a lemon pan fried white fish. Very nice Sauvignon Blanc. Give it a try.
Kim Crawford Spitfire (2017) is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough sourced from small parcel vineyards. On the nose the wine is rich with passion fruit and guava, with gooseberry and more tropical notes on the palate finishing with a light, creamy citrus. Enjoy with crab chowder or fish tacos. - Community Wine Reviews
