Reviews and Ratings

Deborah Podurgiel WSET IV Candidate - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Hester Creek Estate Winery's 2021 Character White always has lots of character to offer and this vintage does not disappoint. Dry, medium-bodied and tasty 2021 Character White is a fresh and zesty blend of 66% Pinot Gris and 34% Gewurztraminer from one of the warmest vintages on record thanks in large part to the "Heat Dome" of 2021. Grapes reached phenolic ripeness, and earlier than usual, so harvest started and ended early as well.

Because of this mega heat event, there was less fruit per vine as well as a lighter grape yield but talk about fruit-driven intensity! On the nose the wine is fragrant with rose petals, honeyed melon, orange zest aromas with rose petal, fresh Bartlett pear, peach, pineapple, lemon and mandarin orange zest, brilliant on the palate with a lingering, ripe stone fruit finish.

Definitely in the dangerously drinkable category! Tasted March 2022.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Made from Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer, this Okanagan Valley White expresses notes of crunchy green apple with delicate peach, orange blossom, pineapple, hints of banana candy and, yes, I'm saying it, Juicy Fruit gum, not to forget saline minerality.

Despite the sweet aromatic description above, it's dry on the palate. Expect a medium bodied, fruit forward wine with concentrated notes of tart Granny Smith apple, lime, and mineral notes seeping through. The flavours linger and the finish is pleasant.

Wine food pairing: It's nice on its own, but would pair well with Duck à l'Orange, or with Quiche Lorraine.
