Wow! This knocked my socks off. The vines for this Baco Noir were planted in the early 1980s, and yield incredibly concentrated and complex flavours in this wine. Dark, fleshy ripe, mouth-watering black plum and blackberry. This is your ultimate barbecue wine.

Baco Noir food pairings: venison, lamb or steak, spicy pasta dishes with rich tomato sauces.

Reviews and Ratings

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Wow. Black plums, smoke, earthiness, and a touch of eucalyptus. The taste is rich, juicy plum with a great acidity and a touch of rounded tannin. The finish is very juicy plum and blackberry tending a little sweeter as it fades. This is a very juicy, balanced wine.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Incredible concentration of super ripe plums, blackberries, and spice, mingling with some herbaceousness. Intense nose that translates into a mouth full of velvety smooth ripe fruit, medium acidity and relatively low tannins. As much as it is a blockbuster wine, it is well balanced and very approachable. I had it with a bbq bacon wrapped chicken and it was not overpowering. Highly recommended!
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Baco Noir doesn't do anything in half measures. It has in-your-face aromatics, concentration, and can create some pretty unique flavours.
Henry of Pelham does a good job with this varietal. Their tasty, approachable, and much more amenable to grow in this climate.
This wine has a lovely purple hue with some ruby edges.
Aromas of shoe polish, resin, charcoal, and damson.
Moderatte alcohol and concentrated plum and fig on the palate. A slight acidic bump towards the end keeps things lifted.
This wine would be great with a crockpot stew with beef and root veggies.
From old vines shovel-planted by the Speck Brothers in the early 1980’s and 90’s comes grapes that have maturity, depth of flavour, structure and finesse. Not producing as much fruit, old vines result in rich wines with black currant and spice. Through rigorous declassification these wines are limited in production and made when all of the conditions align perfectly. From harvest to bottle, these wines take 2-3 years and are cropped at levels in the 2-3 bottle per vine range (approximately 3 tonnes/acre).
Extended maceration and vigorous cap management during fermentation to extract natural rich fruit and intensity of colour and flavour.
Combination of new and one/two year old American Oak. Aged in barrel for 14 months.
