Floral and lovely with racy acidity for seafood. So aromatic and bursting with character. Dried apricot. Nice as a chilled aperitif when you're bored of beige wine.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Fontanafredda's Gavi di Gavi is made from 100% Cortese from the outstanding 2016 vintage. The nose shows delicious lemon tart, orchard blossom, and sweet yellow apple. Very well balanced, the fruit and acid are beautifully integrated, with a great texture from the six months it spent on its lees. Enjoy with creamy cheeses, charcuterie, or grilled fish with stone fruit compote. Tasted October 2017. Great value! 90-91 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Fantastic dry Cortese dominant from Piedmont. Great value. Pairs well with a lightly fried filet of sole and infused rice. A great alternative to Pinot Grigio. Next level. Tasted 2016 vintage in May 2018. 90 points
Lynn Van Der Linde rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This 2016 vintage was an amazing year for this region, and its captured perfectly in this bottle of Gavi di Gavi.
Fresh and lively, with some fullness as a result of spending some fermentation time in small oak barrels, this is a wonderfully traditional Italian wine not commonly found in Canadian wine stores. Give it a try!
The striped label is a nod to the once striped buidings that housed the first kings of Italy in the mid-19th century.
Produced with 100% Cortese grapes, this varietal has a history in Italy dating back to the 15th century, and is known for its ultra dry characteristics and crisp acidity, perfect with seafood and milder cheeses.
Tasted October 2017.
Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Gavi, made exclusively from the Cortese grape and named after the town of Gavi in Piedmont, is becoming trendy again for good reason. It has lots of personality a dry character and fresh acidity. Green apple, floral notes, vanilla, honey and almond combine to create a smooth, well balanced wine. Great paired with any white fish dish. Tasted October 29, 2017 at a Fontanafredda wine tasting.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A step up in quality from the Briccotondo, this wine has greater density and concentration. The stone fruit characteristics are more ripe and the citrus more candied. There are dried flower notes, baked apple and a bit of flint on the finish. At 19 bucks this is a steal. 90 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Made from the Cortese grape and grown in the Gavi region of Piedmont, Italy. Gorgeous medium lemon colour with aromas of pear, ripe yellow apple and a touch of peach, nectarine and salty minerals. This echoes quite nicely on the palate with flavours of yellow delicious apple, ripe asian pear, starfruit, granite, wet stone and seashells. Perfectly balanced with medium plus acidity, body and finish. Additional aging on lees make this delectably smooth and flavourful. Fresh and creamy, easy to pair with a variety of antipasto, light pasta dishes, chicken and soft cheeses. Tasted with Fontanafredda brand ambasador, Alberto Frea October 2017
Gwen Barton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Fontanafredda has produced a very smooth and elegant Gavi du Gavi wine at a very affordable price. Citrus and floral nose with flavours of lemon, apple and mild earthiness with a touch of flinty minerality. Some bitter almond on the finish. Smooth and elegant. Pair with butternut squash risotto. Cherie Cole rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This 100% Cortese wine highlights a lovely complexity of floral, citrus and tree fruit profile. Medium to full bodied with an elegant finish. Pair with delicate, white fish. Tasted with Alberto Frea, Brand Ambassador - Fontanafredda. October 29, 2017.
Colin McKone - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Made from 100% Cortese grapes, it is very pale straw in colour with a greenish hue. Aromatic with notes of lemon, green apples and white flowers with the flavours following through on the palate. Dry with crisp and enjoyable acidity and a medium lemon finish. Will pair nicely with green salads, soft cheeses and seafood. A terrific value for the price. Tasted on October 29, 2017.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A bright pale yellow coloured wine with apple and citrus aromas as well as floral notes. On the palate, it has apple and lemon flavours, as well as walnut at the finish. The flavours linger on the palate. This wine would pair nicely with appetizers, fried fish, and sea food.

Tasted October 2017.
Lori Kilmartin WSET3 - WSET3 Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This is Fontanafredda's higher end white made with Cortese grapes. It's little sister is produced under the Briccotondo label.

While both are fermented in stainless steel a portion of this Gavi di Gavi (15%) spends time in Slovanian oak barriques. It also spends 6 months on the lees which imparts a softer rounder mouthfeel and more body. Green apple, grapefruit pith and floral aromas. A dry fresh wine with nice acidity and a long lemon finish. This will be released in Vintages in July 2018 - and will make a great addition as a summer patio wine - keep an eye out for it! Tasted October 29, 2017.
Louise Boutin -Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This Cortese varietal wine features green apple, citrus and lots of wet rock on the nose. The stainless steel fermentation transpires through the freshness of this medium bodied white that lingers on lemony notes and persistant pleasant minerality. Pair with shellfish dishes such as fresh clam pasta.
Tasted Oct 29th, 2017
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

The nose is a bit more closed than the Briccotondo bottling, but still showing mineral, lemon, apple and floral notes. On the palate this has more concentration and fruit with mineral ntoes. Nicely balanceced medium light body, wth medium acid and a medium length finish. A fine choice for salads and pan fried white fish.
Fontanafredda portfolio tasting - Oct 2017
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A slightly more intense wine created from the local Cortese di Gavi grape. Ground cherry (mix of tropical mango and savoury tomato, if you haven't tried!), lychee, crisp apple and floral honey. The acidity is surprisingly higher than expected, bringing a pleasant balance of intense fruit and acidity.

Pairing: This wine would pair well with a seafood pasta in cream sauce, white fish and lemon sauce, or herby risotto with goats cheese.
Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Nose: green apple & pear, flinty, lemony
Palate: like biting into a Granny Smith apple, light refreshing acidity and body, minerally finish. Enjoy with starter salads, simply cooked white fish, lighter textured seafood with butter based sauces.
