Seductive blackberries and fleshy black plums on the nose, full-bodied with gorgeous velvet texture on the palate of this elegant Argentine red wine brought to us by Vistalba. Spice and cedar smoke on a long and persistent finish. A beautiful expression of Mendoza malbec. The grapes are grown on vines that are over 80 years old in Vistalba and Las Compuertas regions, and they're cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare, which is low, and aged in French barrel for 12 months. Pair with lamb chops. Yum!

Malbec food pairings: lamb burgers, grilled steaks, sausages, breaded veal cutlets.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A Bordeaux in sheeps clothing. Dry, structured, big tannins, this is a great example of big left bank wine being produced in Argentina. Stylistically this wine is meant to be enjoyed with rustic protein rich dishes that help soften the big tannins. Dark berries, chocolate, leather, herbs. Very impresseive. Enjoy 2015-2020+. Tasted January 2015. 89 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
The 2011 vintage of the Gran Reserva Malbec is made from 100% Malbec grapes grown on low-yielding vines planted in the region of Lujan de Cuyo. The wine is fermented in concrete vats and then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, of which about a third is new, a third is second-use and the remainder third use. - Community Wine Reviews
